Heinrich Zinnkann

Heinrich Zinnkann (born December 31, 1885 in Worms ; † May 5, 1973 in Wiesbaden ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary and technical school, Zinnkann completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith and mechanic. He joined the union in 1903, became managing director of the metal workers' union in 1919 and worked as a workers secretary in Hesse from 1922 . In 1928 he joined the Hessian Ministry of Labor and Economics as a member of the government.

After the National Socialists came to power, Zinnkann was relieved of his posts, was initially unemployed and in 1935 took up a job as a representative at a building society. In 1944 he was drafted into the Volkssturm . After the Second World War he was appointed senior government councilor in 1945.

Political party

Zinnkann joined the SPD in 1906. In 1945 he was elected deputy state chairman of the SPD Hessen .

MP

Zinnkann was a councilor for the city of Worms from 1919 to 1930. From December 1924 to July 1933 he belonged to the Landtag of the People's State of Hesse , where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1931 to 1933.

In 1946, Zinnkann was a member of the appointed advisory state committee and the state assembly of the state of Greater Hesse that advised the constitution . He was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1946 to 1962 and served as president of the state parliament from December 1, 1954 to November 30, 1962.

Public offices

Zinnkann was appointed Hessian State Minister of the Interior by the US military government on August 7, 1946 and thus belonged to the state government led by Prime Minister Karl Geiler . After the first free state elections and the formation of a grand coalition of SPD and CDU , he took over the Ministry of Interior and Reconstruction in the state government led by Prime Minister Christian Stock on January 6, 1947 . From January 10, 1951 to November 30, 1954, he was again Minister of State for the Interior in the state government led by Prime Minister Georg-August Zinn . At the same time he held the office of Deputy Prime Minister.

Others

His son Willi Zinnkann was also an SPD politician and chairman of the Social Democrats in the Hessian state parliament, as well as mayor of the city of Büdingen .
