Karl Starzacher (born February 3, 1945 in Sankt Veit an der Glan , Austria ) is a German politician and chairman of the Hessen State Association of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V.

Career path

Karl Starzacher went to school in Langsdorf and Frankfurt am Main . After graduation in 1964 in Frankfurt am Main, he studied at the University of Frankfurt am Main Law . After the 1st state examination (1969), he worked as a research assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and passed the second state examination in 1975. He then worked as a consultant in the Hessian State Chancellery and from November 1976 in the Hessian Ministry of Justice.

He has been a member of the SPD since 1969. He was the chairman of the local association in Langsdorf and later in Lich . In terms of local politics, he was the community representative in Langsdorf, where he was parliamentary group leader of the SPD and later a city councilor in Lich. He belonged to the district council of the district of Gießen and led there from 1981 to the SPD parliamentary group. Before that, he had been district council chairman from 1979 to 1981.

In 1978 he became a member of the Hessian state parliament for the constituency of Giessen II . From June 26, 1984 he was deputy chairman and from 1987 to 1991 parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group. From April 5, 1991 to April 5, 1995 he was President of the State Parliament . From April 5, 1995 to April 7, 1999 he was the Hessian finance minister . In the last year of his tenure he was chairman of the conference of finance ministers.

He was a member of the 9th and 10th Federal Assemblies .

After his time as an active politician, he was Chairman of the Management Board of RAG Aktiengesellschaft until May 2003 . From April 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009, Karl Starzacher was President of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences , Idstein.

Honors

In 1987 Karl Starzacher received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. On November 5, 2010, Prime Minister Volker Bouffier awarded Karl Starzacher the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal for services to German unity . On February 20, 2014, Prime Minister Volker Bouffier awarded him the Hessian Order of Merit.
