Willi Zinnkann

Willi Zinnkann (born October 27, 1915 in Worms , † October 23, 1997 in Büdingen ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Zinnkann was born as the son of the politician and later Hesse State Minister Heinrich Zinnkann in Worms on the Rhine. He spent his childhood and youth there until his family moved to Darmstadt in 1929. He attended the advanced school in Bensheim , a secondary school, especially for students from grade 7 who came to the school as a driving learner. After the Bensheim school was closed, he continued his education at the advanced school in Friedberg (Hesse) from 1930 and passed his Abitur there in 1935. Afterwards he actually wanted to study law, but in 1936 he did Reich labor and military servicedrafted, towards the end of 1939 for military service in the Second World War , where he started his career as an officer.

Zinnkann was released from American captivity in December 1945. In Passau from January to April 1946 he took on the duties of border commissioner for refugees. In 1946 Zinnkann became district refugee commissioner in the Büdingen district and in 1948 district housing commissioner for the district, where he was responsible for the accommodation and care of the displaced persons .

Political party

Zinnkann was a member of the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) from 1929 to 1933 and at times chairman of the SAJ in Darmstadt. In 1945 he joined the SPD.

MP

Zinnkann was a council member of the city of Büdingen since 1952. He was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1950 to 1970 and was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there from March 30, 1960 to October 17, 1961.

Public offices

Zinnkann was mayor of Büdingen from 1962 to 1976.
