Rudolf Freidhof (born September 23, 1888 in Gerlachsheim , † December 25, 1983 in Kassel ) was a German SPD politician .

Life

From 1921 to 1928 Rudolf Freidhof was a member of the state parliament of the Republic of Baden . Between 1925 and 1928 he was also a city councilor in Mannheim . The trained businessman emerged as an open opponent of National Socialism since 1930 . In 1931 his book Die Faschistische Gegenrevolution was self-published in Kassel .

After the National Socialists came to power , Rudolf Freidhof was taken into “ protective custody ” on April 19, 1933 and spent the period from June 29 to July 24, 1933 in the Breitenau concentration camp near Kassel. After the assassination attempt on Hitler on July 20, 1944 , Freidhof was arrested again as part of the Grid Action and was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp from August to October 1944 .

After 1945, as a member of the SPD, Freidhof was a member of the state assembly of Hesse that advised the constitution . From 1946 to 1949 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament and from 1946 to 1947 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group . Graveyard was in the constituency Eschwege each directly elected from 1949 bis 1957 Member of Parliament , from 1956 to 1964 also a member of the City Council and City Council Chairman in Kassel.

Freidhof was made an honorary citizen of the city of Kassel in 1964 . He was also the recipient of the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal . His grave in the Harleshausen cemetery in Kassel was declared the city of Kassel's grave of honor .
