Rudi Schmitt (politician)

Rudi Schmitt (born January 8, 1928 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German SPD politician .

From 1946 to 1954 he worked as a teacher in Frankfurt am Main.

In 1954 he was elected to the Hessian state parliament for the first time and was its youngest member in this legislative period. In the following elections ( 1958 , 1962 and 1966 ) he again entered parliament. From 1960 to 1968 as a city councilor in Wiesbaden as a school and sports department head, and since 1966 also as a cultural department head, he gave up these offices when he was elected mayor of Wiesbaden on February 1, 1968 , and also resigned his state parliament mandate. He held the office of Lord Mayor until March 5, 1980. From November 1980 to February 1987 he was a member of the German Bundestag for two electoral terms , including from 1980 to 1983 as a directly elected member of the Wiesbaden constituency .
