Eckhardt Barthel

Eckhardt Barthel (born December 17, 1939 in Leipzig ) is a German politician. From 1998 to 2005 he was a member of the Bundestag for the Social Democratic Party of Germany .

Life

The engineer and political scientist worked as head of the public relations department at the Senator for Health and Environmental Protection in Berlin. He has been a member of the SPD since 1970. In April 1983 Barthel moved up to the Berlin House of Representatives after Senator Anke Brunn had left parliament. He was a member of the House of Representatives for 15 years until he was elected directly to the Bundestag for the first time in 1998 in the constituency of Berlin-Kreuzberg - Schöneberg . In 2002 he was directly elected in the constituency of Berlin-Tempelhof-Schöneberg . Barthel was the cultural-political spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group until he left the German Bundestag .
