Elisabeth Heister-Neumann (born June 17, 1955 in Alfter , Bonn district ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2003 to 2008 she was Lower Saxony's Minister of Justice , from 2008 to 2010 Lower Saxony's Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs and from 2009 to 2013 a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament .

Life and work

Heister-Neumann studied law in Bonn and was the head of municipal supervision in the Magdeburg regional council . She is married and has two children.

Political party

Heister-Neumann has been a member of the CDU since 1983. From 2006 to 2014 she was deputy state chairwoman of the CDU in Lower Saxony. Since 2012 she has been chairwoman of the CDU district association Helmstedt. She has been a member of the CDU federal executive committee since 2014.

Public offices

From 1992 to 2003 Heister-Neumann was city ​​director of the city of Helmstedt . She was a member of the Legal and Constitutional Committee and the Presidium of the Lower Saxony City Council .

On March 4, 2003, she was appointed Minister of Justice to the Lower Saxony state government ( Wulff I cabinet ). After the state elections in 2008 , Heister-Neumann exchanged her department with Bernd Busemann in February 2008 and became Minister of Culture ( Wulff II cabinet ). In April 2010, Elisabeth Heister-Neumann resigned from the state government as part of a cabinet reshuffle; the previous state secretary Bernd Althusmann took over the office of minister of education .

In 2011 she ran unsuccessfully for the mayoral election of Wolfsburg .

MPs

In the 2008 state elections, Heister-Neumann ran for the Lower Saxony state parliament in the Salzgitter constituency, but was unable to win the constituency. On June 16, 2009, she replaced Bernd Althusmann in the state parliament, which had resigned his mandate to become State Secretary of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture. In the state elections in 2013 , she ran in the constituency of Helmstedt , but was defeated by Uwe Strümpel and did not enter parliament via the state list.

In the local elections in 2016 , Elisabeth Heister-Neumann was elected to both the district council of the Helmstedt district and the council of the city of Helmstedt.
