Werner Hofmeister
Werner Hofmeister (* 23. February 1902 in Braunschweig ; † 21st September 1984 ) was a German politician of the CDU . In 1948/49 he was a member of the Parliamentary Council and twice held the post of Lower Saxony Minister of Justice in the Lower Saxony state government .
Life
After graduating from secondary school in Braunschweig, he studied law and political science at the University of Göttingen from 1922 to 1925 , where he became a member of the Brunsviga fraternity in 1922 . In 1929 he passed the second state examination and entered civil service. Because of his membership in the German People's Party , he was dismissed in 1933 and worked as a lawyer. After the war he took on a job as a judge at the Braunschweig District Court for almost a year . On June 1, 1946, he became a notary.
Public offices
He has been a CDU member since it was founded.
Hofmeister was in the first to fifth electoral terms from April 20, 1947 to June 5, 1967 member of the Lower Saxony state parliament. He was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in Lower Saxony from May 6, 1951 to May 5, 1955. He was chairman of the committee for legal and constitutional questions from June 14, 1951 to May 5, 1955 and of the committee of the rules of procedure from June 3, 1959 to June 5, 1967. Hofmeister was a member of the DP / CDU parliamentary group in the state parliament from March 28, 1951 to May 5, 1959. The Landtag elected him a member of the first Federal Assembly , which elected Theodor Heuss as Federal President in 1949 .
He was president from May 26, 1955 to December 4, 1957 , from May 12, 1959 to June 5, 1967 Vice-President of the Lower Saxony State Parliament and Chairman of the Lower Saxony Constitutional Committee. Under Hinrich Wilhelm Kopf he was Minister of Justice from 1949 to 1950 and under Heinrich Hellwege from 1957 to 1959.
Honors
Hofmeister received the Federal Cross of Merit with a star and shoulder ribbon and the Lower Saxony State Medal .
