Werner Hofmeister (* 1951 in Klein Sankt Paul ) is an Austrian conceptual artist .

After attending a technical school for mechanical engineering, Hofmeister was temporarily a model maker. 1974 to 1978 Hofmeister studied graphic and design in Darmstadt and serigraphy in Trier. The center of his life is as a freelance artist in Klein Sankt Paul in Carinthia's Görtschitztal .

Hofmeister deals with the source, the origin represented as the letter Q. The first letter Q is the content bracket of many of his works of art, which were created in public and church. Hofmeister mainly works with the materials concrete and iron. By Thomas Zaunschirm Hofmeister is called "concept folk artists".

Since 2002, Hofmeister has dedicated himself to the project Qnstort Klein Sankt Paul in his hometown , which numerous works in public space in the community attest to. In 2004, the valley museum in Lachitzhof in Klein Sankt Paul became the center of the Noric Art Region project under the direction of Hofmeister. A sculpture park was created around the Lachitzhof, which has been renamed the Museum for Source Culture. Hofmeister's works can be seen in the churches of St. Peter near Taggenbrunn , Klagenfurt-Welzenegg, Klagenfurt-Heiligengeistkirche (also on the square in front of the church), Suetschach, Klein Sankt Paul and Tauchendorf as well as around the Klagenfurt Clinic . In 2003 he set up a station of the cross at Kalvarienberg Graz. In 2010 he designed the flying roof of the Kühnsdorf school center.

Werner Hofmeister had solo exhibitions in 1985 in the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna (Muttermalaktion), in 1993 in the Kunsthaus Bregenz and in 2002 in the Minoriten Galleries in Graz. He was involved in group exhibitions in 1988 at the Kunsthaus Graz (Degenerate Borders), in 1992 at the Künstlerhaus Klagenfurt (INTART), in 1999 at the Landesgalerie Linz (CHILE: AUSTRIA) and in 2003 at the gallery at the Landesmuseum Joanneum Graz (Himmelschwer).

Honors

In 1987 Hofmeister was awarded the Carinthian Promotion Prize, in 1988 an Austrian State Scholarship for Fine Arts, and in 2006 he was awarded the title of professor. In 2012 he was awarded the Federal Medal of Honor for special services to the community and for outstanding achievements in museum work.
