Thomas Zaunschirm (born December 2, 1943 in Liegnitz , Lower Silesia ) is an art historian .

After his doctorate and habilitation in Salzburg , guest professorships followed at the universities of Zurich and Graz . From 1989 to 1994 Zaunschirm was professor for art history at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau. From 1995 to 2007 he was professor for modern art history and art history at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Essen . He has lived in Vienna since leaving . He has authored numerous books on modern art and methodology .
