Souled American

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Souled American is an American country and roots rock band, formed in Chicago in 1987 .

Initially the band consisted of Chris Grigoroff (guitar, vocals), Joe Aducci (bass, vocals), Scott Tuma (lead guitar) and Jamey Barnard (drums). The songs were mainly written by Grigoroff and Aducci.

Their music can also be classified under the very broad term alternative country . Like other bands in this genre, they countered the polished sound and demeanor of the Nashville -influenced country scene with their own, rougher, more authentic interpretation of this musical tradition. The band's music was carried by Grigoroff's lighter, somewhat hoarse voice, by Tumas, with more precise guitar work, and by the rhythmic section consisting of bass and drums, which is always calm even with faster pieces. Especially pieces played slowly, almost in slow motion, became her trademark, although her repertoire was by no means exhausted.

In 1992, drummer Jamey Barnard left, in 1998 Scott Tuma followed and released some solo records. Loved and praised by critics, but only perceived to a limited extent by the general public, the band Souled American has largely disappeared from the field of view of the international music world, but they still exist and can be booked for performances according to their homepage.
