Dieter Burgard (* 10. December 1954 in Saarbrücken ) was Ombudsman of Rhineland-Palatinate and commissioner for the state police and since 2018 Representative of the Prime Minister for Jewish life and anti-Semitism issues of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Life and work

After completing secondary school, Burgard completed an apprenticeship as a banker from 1971 to 1974 with subsequent employment at Deutsche Bank . 1974 to 1975 he did community service in the Caritas facility Maria Grünewald for people with disabilities in Wittlich . From 1975 to 1978 he attended the technical school for social pedagogy and from 1978 to 1979 made a year of recognition in the St. Peter kindergarten in Wengerohr . Burgard has been a member of the SPD since 1985. Since May 1, 2017, the Ombudsman has also had the complaints office for child and youth welfare. At the end of April 2018, Burgard resigned from this office. His successor was Barbara Schleicher-Rothmund (SPD).

From May 2018, Burgard in Germany will be the first representative for Jewish life and anti-Semitism issues for Rhineland-Palatinate, based in the State Chancellery.
