Recognition year

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The year of recognition or professional recognition year or internship is the practical work that social workers and social pedagogues in some federal states of Germany have to complete after their studies in order to obtain state recognition in their profession. Furthermore, many trainees from educational and nursing professions (such as educators or curative nurses ) have to complete a year of recognition in order to receive state recognition.

Sense and purpose

A student usually completes a degree at a university of applied sciences specializing in social work with a bachelor's degree . The job title of the graduate is then BA social worker

In order to be able to work as a social worker in the public service , the social worker must be recognized by the state. In some federal states, state recognition is achieved directly upon completion of the degree. In addition to the bachelor's degree, the graduate receives a certificate of receipt of state recognition.

In some federal states (e.g. Lower Saxony ), the graduates receive their state recognition only after they have completed an internship.

Requirement for the internship

The intern can complete his year of recognition in any institution where social workers work. The intern's instructor must be a state-approved social worker.

End of the year of recognition

The intern applies to an institution for a position in the year of recognition. A training contract is concluded with the internship in which the goals of the practical training are defined. The intern in the year of recognition submits the training contract to the body that issues state recognition (in Lower Saxony the university of applied sciences).

Duration of the year of recognition

Usually the year of recognition is one year. With the changeover to the bachelor's degree, graduates have the opportunity to shorten the recognition year to six months. This regulation is used very differently; many internship positions expect their interns to work for a full year so that remuneration is paid.

During the year of recognition, the trainee attends, in addition to his practical work, individual accompanying courses at the university of applied sciences and prepares an internship report on the period of the internship. At the end of the internship, the intern at the university of applied sciences has to take an oral exam about the internship. If the intern passes this, he is awarded state recognition.

Remuneration in the year of recognition

The intern is entitled to remuneration during the year of recognition. The amount of remuneration is around 66% of the normal social worker salary (net). In federal states in which no year of recognition is required for state recognition, no remuneration is often paid for the internship. In other federal states such as B. Lower Saxony, however, adequate remuneration is mandatory. Many universities do not accept the supervision of interns if they receive insufficient remuneration. According to the collective bargaining association of German states , the remuneration for the year of recognition is currently 1,623.54 euros.

Name "internship"

The year of recognition is also known as an internship. This is because the year of recognition is seen as part of practical training. However, the intern is full of graduates with a degree, in which they have the opportunity to try out what they have learned under supervision. An internship in the year of recognition is therefore in no way comparable to an intern without a degree, hence the relatively high entitlement to remuneration.

Collective agreement

For employees who complete their internship in the public sector, the collective agreement for interns in the public sector (TVPöD), last amended on March 1, 2015, applies. It also contains information on the amount of the internship fee.
