Barbara Schleicher-Rothmund (born February 14, 1959 in Bad Godesberg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been an ombudsman for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since April 2018.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1977, Schleicher-Rothmund studied Spanish and Arabic at the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim and became a qualified translator in 1985. She is married and has two kids.

politics

In 1999 Schleicher-Rothmund joined the SPD. From 2010 to 2018 she was chairwoman of the SPD district association Germersheim.

From 2004 to 2018 she was a member of the district council of the district of Germersheim . In 2001 Schleicher-Rothmund was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, of which she was a member until 2018. There she was parliamentary managing director of the SPD state parliamentary group from 2006 to 2014 . In addition, she is the spokesperson for church policy for the SPD parliamentary group. She was Vice President of the State Parliament from December 18, 2014 to April 26, 2018. She succeeded Hannelore Klamm , who left the state parliament.

Schleicher-Rothmund was a full member of the following committees:

She is deputy chairwoman of the state party council of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate.

She is chairwoman of the administrative board of the Institute for European History Mainz. In 2005 she was appointed to this position by the state government.

As a representative of the state parliament, she is a member of the Upper Rhine Council and chairwoman of the Upper Rhine Council Youth, Education, Culture Commission.

She is a member of the board of trustees of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

On September 14, 2016, the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament elected her to the administrative board of Südwestrundfunk (SWR), of which she was a member until December 2017. Since April 29, 2018, she has been the ombudsman of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and officer for the state police . She is the successor to Dieter Burgard .

Volunteering

Schleicher-Rothmund is a member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate.
