Edgar Meister

Edgar Meister (born May 21, 1940 in Kassel ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former board member of the Bundesbank .

education and profession

After graduating from high school , studying law from 1961 to 1966 in Marburg and passing the second state examination in 1969, Meister initially worked at the Bank für Gemeinwirtschaft from 1970 to 1980 and then moved to the board of directors of the Deutsche Pfandbriefanstalt in Wiesbaden . Meister received an honorary doctorate from the Leuphana University of Lüneburg (Dr. rer. Pol. Hc) in November 2004 and was awarded the 1st Class Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in April 2006 .

politics

Meister is a member of the SPD. In 1991 he was the then Prime Minister Rudolf Scharping as Minister of Finance appointed to the Cabinet. He held this office until September 1993 and switched to the board of directors of the Deutsche Bundesbank on October 1, 1993 and took over the department “Banks, Minimum Reserves, Main Cash”. He was considered a staunch advocate of greater transparency in hedge funds . On April 30, 2007, Meister was retired. From 1998 to May 2007 Meister was chairman of the Banking Supervision Committee of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) . Master is next to it u. a. Since 2005, volunteer as a member of the Auditor Oversight Commission , which for the public professional oversight of the active, a panel Chamber of Auditors is responsible.

Memberships

Meister has been a member of the Supervisory Board of DWS Investment GmbH since April 3, 2008 and a member of the Commerzbank Supervisory Board since May 16, 2009 .
