The Chamber of Public Accountants ( WPK ) is a corporation under public law with its main office in Berlin , whose members are all auditors , sworn accountants , auditing companies and auditing companies in Germany . Members of the WPK are also legal representatives of auditing companies and auditing companies that are not personally professional. Voluntary membership is open to the cooperative auditing associations , the auditing offices of the savings and giro associations and the supra-local auditing institutions for public bodies. The WPK has around 21,200 members (as of January 1, 2019).

tasks

The Chamber of Public Accountants was established in 1961. It is a corporation under public law and is responsible nationwide. The statutory tasks of the WPK according to § 57 Wirtschaftsprüferordnung (WPO) include:

  • the function of the WPK as a contact and information partner for its members,
  • representing the interests and positions of the profession vis-à-vis the public and politicians as well as
  • the enactment of regulations on professional practice in the form of statutes,
  • the appointment of auditors and sworn auditors as well as the recognition of auditing and auditing companies as well as their revocation,
  • the implementation of the national examination for auditors, sworn accountants,
  • the implementation of the quality control process and
  • the professional supervision; The Auditor Oversight Authority (APAS) at the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control is responsible for overseeing the audits of companies of public interest (Section 319a Paragraph 1 Clause 1 HGB).

Other important tasks are safeguarding the interests of the profession and providing experts and intermediaries. At the international level, the Wirtschaftsprüferkammer works with foreign professional organizations for the auditing professions. It is a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the European Federation of Accountants and Auditors for SMEs (EFAA).

According to Section 66 WPO, the WPK is subject to supervision by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy . According to § 66a WPO leading auditor oversight body (APAS), a public professional oversight of the WPK.

Offices

The Chamber of Public Accountants maintains regional offices in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart in order to ensure its presence in the region and to conduct the auditing examination.

The main office of the Chamber of Public Accountants is located in the Berlin embassy district . The building at Rauchstrasse 26 in the middle of the Klingelhöfer triangle was rebuilt according to a design by Claus Neumann and completed in 2001. The gross floor area of the five-storey building is 4,500 m², the construction costs were EUR 7.5 million.
