The International Federation of Accountants ( IFAC ) is an international association of accountants . It brings together 157 member organizations from 123 countries. According to its own information, it represents 2.5 million auditors. Its administrative headquarters are in New York , where around 30 permanent employees work. The statutory seat, however, is in Geneva . The organization was founded in 1977 in Munich .

Members are national auditing companies and international organizations from the auditing sector.

The organization's goals are to strengthen the profession and set global standards for auditing. To this end, the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) as part of IFAC publishes, among other things, the International Standards on Auditing (ISA). Furthermore, International Auditing Practice Statements (IASP) published that apply in practice the auditor as a guide. Furthermore, IFAC has the right to appoint five members of the Board of Trustees of the International Accounting Standards Board .

The International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB ) issues the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) for the public budget sector (government accounting) .

The principles of the IFAC Code of Ethics are mentioned in the 8th Directive 2006/43 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council (“EuroSOX”) as a possibility for a minimum requirement for professional principles for auditors.

The current president is Göran Tidström .
