Ben Wettervogel (bourgeois Benedikt Ludger Vogel ; born December 18, 1961 in Klein Reken ; † February 2, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German graduate meteorologist , radio and television presenter and editor at ZDF .

life and career

After graduating from high school in 1981, Vogel studied meteorology in Munich from 1982 and worked for the weather service provider MMC Meteo Media Consult from 1992 to 2003 . From 1990 he moderated weather forecasts on Antenne 1 , Antenne Thuringia and Radio NRW . From 1998 to 2005 he worked for SWR3 and was announced there as the "Wettervogel", whereupon the artist name Ben Wettervogel soon became established . After a while he had this name entered on his identity card .

From January 2005 to October 2014 he was an editor of the weather department of the ZDF morning magazine . On August 8, 2014, he presented the weather report for the last time in the morning magazine, after which he was released from work by ZDF ; his contract, which expired on October 31, 2014, was not extended by the broadcaster for “personal reasons”. In the summer of 2014, Wettervogel had taken rehab because of his alcohol addiction , but then drank alcohol privately and at work.

He was found on February 2, 2015 after a suicide in his apartment in Berlin-Friedrichshain .
