Niko von Glasow (* 1960 in Cologne as Niko Brücher) is a German film producer , author and director of feature and documentary films and the owner of the production company Palladio Film .

Life

Niko von Glasow is the son of Ernst Brücher and Majella Neven DuMont, the founders of DuMont Buchverlag . His aunt on his father's side is Hildegard Hamm-Brücher .

Glasow's film training began with Rainer Werner Fassbinder as a production assistant. He participated in Fassbinder's productions Lola and Theater der Welt . He worked for numerous directors, including a. for Georg Stefan Troller , Hellmuth Costard , Alexander Kluge , Peter Zadek and Jean-Jacques Annaud . Von Glasow worked for film distributors, film studios and the Hamburg Film Festival .

Von Glasow studied acting with John Costopoulos and directing with Jack Garfein at New York University . In 1991 he made his first short film Wedding Guests at the Łódź Film School . This received several awards: the Grand Prix Lino Ventura , the German Film Critics ' Award , the Dresden Film Award and the youth film award of the city of Oberhausen. He wrote the script and directed the film Maries Lied (1994) with Sylvie Testud , Bastian Trost , Veronica Quilligan and Jean-François Perrier, which he produced. The staging and production of his film Edelweißpiraten with Iwan Stebunow , Bela B. , Jan Decleir , Jochen Nickel and Anna Thalbach lasted from 2001 to 2004 . All films were honored with various prizes.

On November 7th, 2007 the WDR broadcast its autobiographical documentary film Schau mich an in the series People firsthand , in which von Glasow deals with his life as a thalidomide victim.

Contergan is also the subject of his documentary (and book) NoBody's Perfect : “In search of twelve people who have been damaged by Contergan and who are ready to be photographed naked, he discovers fascinating personalities who work in such demanding professional fields as politics, media, sport , Work in astrophysics or acting and have learned to live an impressive 'normalcy' with their disabilities. ”The starting point of the project was a calendar with nudes of thalidomide victims. Von Glasow lives in London and Cologne. He is a member of BAFTA and the European Film Academy . As a lecturer for scripts he is u. a. at UCLA in Los Angeles, in Bangkok, Tibet, and at the Wederzijds Theater in Amsterdam.
