action

Attractive 20-year-old Laura ( Uma Thurman ) tries to make ends meet in New York in the 1980s. To do this, she has looked for an idiosyncratic opportunity to earn a living: She flirts with rich older men at vernissages, parties and in trendy bars and accompanies them home. Once there, she numbs the unsuspecting victims with a strong sleeping powder, which she discreetly mixes in a drink, and takes whatever she can use from the apartments. Laura hides her livelihood from her friends and mother. She is convinced that nobody knows about this kind of income. She only has social contact with her old friend Sid ( Paul Dillon ), who suddenly appears again and moves into her apartment, as well as with her older neighbor William ( Paul Richards ), who occasionally invites her to dinner in his apartment. Little does she suspect, however, that he has developed a dangerous obsession for her, as she looks like his daughter, who left him some time ago. One evening, Laura is followed after one of her "raids". She realizes that someone is after her. At first she suspects Sid, also because her older neighbor tells her that. When Laura finds her mother dead in her house, she can injure the murderer who is still present with a knife and flees. Arriving at home, she sees Sid covered in blood in the bathroom and, in panic, flees into William's hands. What she does not know: William is her mother's murderer and had arranged to meet Sid in the parking lot of a supermarket to injure him. Laura only realizes all of this at the last minute when she realizes that William is also injured and bleeding. Finally she stabs William, who is harassing her, with a knife.
