Heart of Midnight - At the heart of the night (Heart of Midnight) is an American thriller from the year 1988 . It was directed by Matthew Chapman , who also wrote the script.

action

Carol Rivers has been insane in the past. After the death of her uncle, she inherits a building that houses a nightclub. Rivers moves into an apartment there and wants to reopen the club. Flashbacks show Rivers' childhood.

Rivers oversees the renovation of the rooms. She is molested one night, but Policeman Ledray doesn't believe her story. Police investigator Sharpe takes over the case, but Rivers soon doubts whether he is a real cop.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of March 3, 1989 that the film explores the depths of bizarre sexual behavior just to see what can be found there (“ a horror film that descends into the depths of bizarre sexual behavior for no better reason than to see what it will find there ”). He can find a lot there. Ebert praised the " talented " Peter Coyote and Jennifer Jason Leigh, who seem vulnerable and do a good job. Matthew Chapman is a better director than a screenwriter; the use of a nightclub as a film set shows that he has a talent for atmosphere and suspense (" Chapman has a gift for atmosphere and suspense ").

Matthew Chapman won an award from the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya in 1989 .
