Brenda Vaccaro

Brenda Buell Vaccaro (born November 18, 1939 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American actress .

Life

Brenda Vaccaro began her career as a stage actress and model. She quickly established herself as a dramatically as well as comedically gifted actress. She was nominated three times for the Tony Award within a short period of time : 1966 for The Cactus Flower , 1968 for Hello Now, Dow Jones and 1969 for The Goodbye People .

Brenda Vaccaro made a name for herself on the big screen with her portraits of complex, sexually aggressive and frustrated women. Her second film role has remained her most famous to this day: that of Shirley in Asphalt-Cowboy ( Midnight Cowboy , 1969). She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a woman who buys love . For her part in is not enough disposable ( Jacqueline Susann 's Once Is Not Enough , 1975), she won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress of the Year and was also in this category for an Oscar nomination. Again, the actress portrays a sexually and emotionally frustrated woman who nevertheless demonstrates unbroken self-confidence.

Brenda Vaccaro has guest-starred on a number of well-known television series including Golden Girls , Columbo , Ally McBeal , Nip / Tuck and Friends . She has been nominated for an Emmy four times : in 1973 for the television film The Shape of Things , in 1976 for the series Sara , in 1990 for her guest role as Angela Petrillo in Golden Girls and in 2010 for the television film A Life for Death . She won the most important US television award in 1973.

In 1981, Brenda Vaccaro made a big splash in the United States when she was promoting tampons . On the advertisements, she asked, "Are you still using the same tampons that were designed for your grandmother?"
