Cookie (alternative link Title: Cookie - The daughter of the Godfather ) is an American comedy thriller from the year 1989 . Directed by Susan Seidelman , the script was written by Alice Arlen and Nora Ephron .

action

Mafioso Dominick Capisco is released from prison after 13 years on parole. He is married to Bunny and has a daughter, Carmela Voltecki, with his lover Lenore. Capisco hires his daughter as a driver. He tries to collect money that his accomplice Carmine owes him. Carmine makes him his business partner again. Capisco tells his daughter that one of Carmine's business associates should be extra careful.

Several unsuccessful attacks are carried out on Capisco, behind which Carmine is suspected to be the mastermind. Voltecki turns to the authorities and offers to testify against Carmine and his people if she and her father are accepted into the witness protection program. She got the idea that one could fake her father's death. The authorities responded and prepared a car in which a remote-controlled bomb was hidden. They find the body of a man who resembles Capisco.

Capisco makes an appointment to meet Carmine in his car. As soon as Carmine gets in and sees the body, the car will be blown up. The hidden Capisco marries his mistress under a false name, while Voltecki attends her father's bogus funeral.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of September 15, 1989 that the film evoked a sense of déjà-vu , as if one had already seen it. It is one of those sometimes amusing, " quite entertaining " films that one cannot remember very well later and offers few surprises. Peter Falk's portrayal does not differ from his portrayals from previous years; Emily Lloyd's play lacks the “ absolute originality ” that she showed in her debut film Wish You Were Here - I wish you were here . Only the parts by Dianne Wiest and Brenda Vaccaro are original.

backgrounds

The film was shot in Atlantic City and other New Jersey locations. It grossed approximately $ 1.87 million in US cinemas .
