Johnny Bravo is an American animated series invented by Van Partible and produced by Cartoon Network . The focus of the series is the title hero.

content

action

Johnny Bravo embodies the typical cliché of a macho . He is muscular, very careful about his looks, naive, uneducated and arrogant. He obsessively approaches every attractive woman he encounters in an extremely clumsy and condescending manner. He hardly ever succeeds in doing this, on the contrary, he is usually slapped in the face by the ladies of his desire or physically attacked in some other way because of his insolent demeanor. If he does not pursue this activity, he usually spends his time with karate (here, too, he overestimates himself immensely), as well as childish or completely meaningless activities. In all cases, he is always drawn into unpredictable adventures.

Bravo is an adult but lives with his adored mother and does not seem to have a regular job. Not infrequently he even expresses his disgust for them. He often stays in his favorite snack bar "Pops" or "Pops Moon Palace".

Supporting characters

  • Bunny Bravo : Johnny's beloved mother, who has a similar, if not quite as serious, naivete. She pampers her son and treats him like a child, which often leads Johnny to point out that he is a grown man.
  • Suzy : An eight-year-old neighborhood girl who likes to engage Johnny in conversation or as a favor. Johnny, on the other hand, feels annoyed by her, always tries to get rid of her and can never remember her name.
  • Carl Chryniszzswics : An intelligent, but at the same time quite naive young man who thinks Johnny is a friend but is downright hated by him. Although Johnny often attacks him physically, he almost never realizes his disgust for him.
  • Pops : The takeaway owner is one of the few men who isn't condescending by Johnny. He is often on hand to give Johnny advice, but sometimes he only has his own advantage in mind.

Production and publication

The series was designed in 1995 by the then 26-year-old Van Partible. Bravo was realized as a mixture of James Dean and Elvis Presley , the original voice actor Jeff Bennet speaks with a voice that mimics Presley's. This was not taken into account in the German synchronization. The figure is also optically based on the models, which is primarily noticeable in an exaggerated quiff and the fact that Bravo always wears sunglasses. The Cartoon Network series was presented with a seven-minute episode, followed by production of the first season, which was broadcast on July 7, 1997. Over time, many American celebrities appeared on the series who also voiced their roles themselves. There were also several offshoots episodes in which Bravo was placed in the universe of other cartoon network series such as Scooby Doo or the Feuerstein family . A total of 65 episodes were produced in four seasons, which consisted of two to three partial episodes and a total of 14 short, recurring skits. There was also a Valentine's Day and a Christmas special. The last episode aired on August 27, 2004.

On October 10, 2007, the publisher Madman Entertainment , who actually specializes in anime , released a DVD box (containing 2 DVDs) which contains all 13 episodes of the first season of Johnny Bravo. The box, which is sold exclusively in Australia and New Zealand, is declared on the company's website as the first of four publications. Season 2 followed in April 2009.

The first broadcast of the German version took place from November 17, 2000 to October 25, 2003 on ORF 1 . The series was then also shown on Pro Sieben , kabel eins and Cartoon Network .
