Frankie Lymon

Frankie Lymon (* the thirtieth September 1942 in New York City ; † 28. February 1968 ) was a rock 'n' roll - and doo-wop - a singer who primarily as frontman of the group The Teenagers became known.

Life

Lymon worked in a grocery store in Harlem, New York before joining the doo-wop band The Premiers in 1956 at the age of 13, which later changed its name to The Teenagers . In the same year came the success with the hit Why Do Fools Fall in Love , which reached the top 10 in the US and number 1 in the UK . Lymon sang the lead vocal in a clear soprano on all of the teenagers' recordings . But in August of the next year, the teenagers separated again. Lymon had a mini-hit with Little Bitty Pretty One in 1960 , but after that there was no more success. On February 28, 1968, Frankie Lymon died of a heroin overdose at the age of 25 .

Posthumous success

In 1993, Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . The biography Why Do Fools Fall in Love - The roots of Rock'n'Roll from 1998 with Larenz Tate , Halle Berry , Vivica A. Fox and Lela Rochon was filmed about Lymon's life .
