Kyle Naughton (born November 11, 1988 in Sheffield ) is an English football player of Irish descent who is under contract with Swansea City .

Career

Sheffield United

Naughton comes from Sheffield United Youth Academy , where he has played since he was eight. In the 2004/05 season he took part in the training camp of the English U-15 youth team and thereby became an important player in the academy and reserve team. As captain, he led his team to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup in the 2006/07 season.

In January 2008 he was loaned to the Scottish Premier League club FC Gretna and on January 16, he played his very first professional league game, which even against the Glasgow Rangers . In Gretna he was able to assert himself as a regular player, but not prevent the relegation that followed at the end of the season. After 19 games and relegation from FC Gretna, he returned to the "Blades" and played his first game for them in August 2008 in the League Cup against Port Vale . In his second appearance in the League Cup, he came on for David Carney in the 69th minute and scored the decisive 2-1 winning goal against Huddersfield Town in the 83rd minute .

On September 20, he played his first game in the Football League Championship against Norwich City and just a week later he made his debut on the Leicester City grid in a 2-1 win over Watford FC , where he was voted Man of the Game has been. After this performance he was able to get his regular place on the position of right defender and was always one of the most present players. However, he also got chances to play in right midfield and at the end of the season replaced the injured Gary Naysmith on the left side of defense. As a result of what he saw as a very positive season, he was voted “Young Player of the Year 2008/09” by the fans and even belonged to the PFA Team of the Year 2008/09 in the Football League Championship.

Tottenham Hotspur

Despite great interest from Everton FC , he and his teammate Kyle Walker signed a contract with Tottenham Hotspur in July 2009 . He played his first game at the Wembley Cup against FC Barcelona , which ended in a 1-1 draw. He played his first Premier League game on August 23, 2009 in a 2-1 win over West Ham United when he came on for Jermain Defoe in the 94th minute .

On February 1, 2010 he was loaned to Middlesbrough FC until the end of the season , where he made his debut for Middlesbrough in the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town and impressed the fans with his pace and technique. After fifteen league games, the loan period ended and he was loaned out again in October 2010, this time to the Football League Championship at Leicester City until January 2011. Just two days later, he played his first game in a 1-1 draw with Hull City and scored just three days later against Leeds United his first goal for Leicester and thus the second league goal of his career. After expanding the loan business until the end of the season, Naughton played 34 league games for Leicester , scoring 5 goals. As an award for his good performance, he was chosen for the second time after 2008/09 into the PFA Team of the Year in the second division.

On July 21, 2011 Kyle Naughton moved for a season on loan to Premier League promoted Norwich City . At the end of the loan period he was able to book 32 league appearances.

Swansea City

In late January 2015, Naughton moved to Swansea City for around five million pounds .

In the national team

In November 2008, after only eleven league games, he became part of the English U-21 squad against the Czech Republic at Bramall Lane . In the 2-0 win, he came on as a substitute in the 60th minute for Martin Cranie . Naughton also has the opportunity to play for the Irish national football team because of his parentage .
