Conor John Gallagher (born February 6, 2000 in Epsom ) is an English football player who is under contract with Chelsea . The midfielder has been England's U21 international since October 2019 .

Beginnings at Chelsea

Gallagher joined Chelsea FC's youth academy at the age of six . In the Blues , he worked for different age groups and was in action for the U18 for the first time from the 2016/17 season. This season he has already played in 27 league games, in which he scored five goals and prepared three. He made a significant contribution to the championship title in the U18 Premier League. He also won the FA Youth Cup with the U18 and has already been active twice for the U23 team.

In the following season 2017/18 he then took over the captaincy of the U18 team and again led his team to the championship title, which they won by nine points. He scored seven goals in 15 league games and set up another goal. The competition was not given a chance in the FA Youth Cup either and won the competition with a 7-1 win in two games against the U18 team of Arsenal FC . This season he played again in two league games for the U23s and also made eight appearances for the U19s in the 2017/18 UEFA Youth League . Gallagher was not taken into account in the 3-0 defeat in the final against FC Barcelona .

In October 2018, Conor Gallagher signed a new three-year deal with Chelsea. During this season he played mostly for the U23 in Premier League 2, where he scored four goals and three assists in 16 league games. In the 2018/19 UEFA Youth League he reached the final again with the Blues , but lost 3-1 to FC Porto . In May 2019 he was named Chelsea Academy Player of the Year . In the 4-1 final victory against Arsenal in the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League , Gallagher was listed in the matchday squad for the first time in a game of the first team, but was not included.

On loan in the championship

On August 2, 2019, he then signed a new three-year contract that now binds him to the capital club until 2022. On the same day, he moved to second division Charlton Athletic on loan for the entire 2019/20 season . He made his debut a day later (1st matchday) when he came into play for Naby Sarr in the 2-1 away win against Blackburn Rovers in the second half . A week later he was in the starting lineup for the first time in the home game against Stoke City and scored a goal in the 3-1 win. With a goal and a template on the 3rd matchday in the 2-2 draw against FC Barnsley , he promoted the promoted to the promotion ranks. Gallagher scored his third goal of the season for the Addicks on matchday five with the decisive goal in the 1-0 home win against Brentford FC .

On January 14, 2020, he was ordered back from Chelsea, only to be loaned to league rivals Swansea City the next day for the rest of the season . Up to this point he had scored six goals in 26 league games and prepared five more goals. For Swansea he was used in 21 league games, in which he achieved six assists.

National team

With the English U17 national team , Conor Gallagher took part in the 2017 U17 World Cup in India . He made four appearances in the competition, including being substituted on for George McEachran in the 5-2 win in the final against Spain in the closing stages .

From March to May 2018 he played six friendly matches for the U18s . He then worked for the U19s , for whom he scored once in nine games.

On September 4, 2019, Gallagher made his debut for the U20 team in the 3-2 defeat in a friendly international match against Portugal .
