Yan Dhanda (born December 14, 1998 in Birmingham ) is an English football player on the position of an attacking midfielder and winger .

Club career

Via West Bromwich to Liverpool FC

Yan Dhanda was born on December 14, 1998 to Indian parents in the city of Birmingham and began his career at the lower-class local club Tipton Town , where he was approached by scouts from local clubs and persuaded to do trial training sessions. From 2008 he played for West Bromwich Albion after he had already gained first experience in club football at FC Walsall , Aston Villa and Birmingham City and briefly at West Bromwich. In 2010, after a good performance at the U-11 tournament of the Search For The Next Chelsea FC Asian Star , an initiative of Chelsea FC to engage Asian players, he did a trial session at Stamford Bridge ; the offer of the Blues was turned down, however, in order to stay with the Baggies . After spending five years in various youth leagues at West Bromwich, he received an invitation from Brendan Rodgers to join Liverpool in 2013 . After accepting this offer, the 14-year-old initially worked in the U-15 team at the club's own academy and at the same time attended the school in Rainhill , about nine miles from the Liverpool academy. Even at this age, he was nominated in the Up and Coming Asian Player of the Year category at the Asian Football Awards , which were presented at Wembley Stadium , and subsequently awarded this prize.

In the UEFA Youth League 2014/15 , Dhanda was already on the bench in two Liverpool games, but was not used by the latter. In 2015/16 he also completed two players in the so-called Professional U21 Development League and was also involved in at least one game in the FA Youth Cup . A few days after his and other sources, according to his 17th birthday, he signed his first professional contract in December 2015, which had a term of two and a half years. On August 15, 2016, the 17-year-old started in the Professional U18 Development League , colloquially known as the U18 Premier League , and contributed a goal assist to Liam Millar's third goal in his debut game in this 4-0 win over his fellow Blackburn Rovers . Already in his second league appearance , a 2-1 away win over Manchester United , he scored both goals for his team. Subsequently, he became one of the regular players in Liverpool and was on the field in 19 of 22 possible league games, with a record of seven hits and eight assists. Among other things, the 3-1 away win over Newcastle United , when Dhanda did the preparatory work for all three goals of his team, was remarkable. As third place in the North Division , Liverpool FC qualified after the first round for Group 1 of the second championship phase. The native of Birmingham only played the first of his team's seven games and, despite a relatively good start, ended up eighth and last in Group 1. The young offensive player also made two this season Short assignments in the Professional U23 Development League , the colloquial U23 Premier League and Premier League 2 .

In this same league Dhanda brought it as a regularly used player to 18 of 22 possible inserts, with the positions in which he was used by Neil Critchley , often varied. In his 18 appearances he scored five goals and made one assist. Already in the middle of the season he convinced Jürgen Klopp , the coach of the professional team, with his performance at a training camp in La Manga and was introduced to the professional squad together with Conor Masterson . With the U-23 team, he subsequently ended the season two points behind the reserves of Arsenal in second place in Division 1 of Premier League 2 .

Change to professional football

After it had long looked as if Dhanda could become the first Indian-born professional player at Liverpool FC - after all, he was the first Indian-born player to ever sign a professional contract with Liverpool FC - the 19-year-old switched to the Premier League in May 2018 -Relegated Swansea City , where he was initially supposed to collect match practice in their U-23 team. He refused to extend his contract with Liverpool, which expired in summer 2018; especially since he said he didn't get a chance at Liverpool. He signed a two-year contract with Swansea and then made a positive impression while preparing for the 2018/19 EFL Championship , making his professional debut at the season opener, a 2-1 away win over Sheffield United . Coach Graham Potter put him from the 85th minute on as a replacement for Jay Fulton in central midfield; on the first touch of the ball, Dhanda scored the 2-1 winning goal a few seconds later after an assist from Barrie McKay . In the following championship game, the 19-year-old offensive player was again unused on the bench.

National team career

Dhanda gained his first experience in a youth national team of the English Football Association in 2014, when he was called up for the first time in England's U-16 squad and he took part in the Montaigu tournament . In the same year he took part with the English U-17 national team in the Nordic U-17 football championship and made his debut on July 28, 2014 in a 5-1 win over his colleagues from Iceland . He scored his team's 1-0 opening goal in the 25th minute of the game. He was also used by the U-17 national coach Dan Micciche in the subsequent internationals against Finland , Sweden and Denmark , with the English losing all these games. To date (as of August 13, 2018) Dhanda has not been used in any other international matches. Due to his Indian descent, the young offensive player would also be eligible to play for a national selection of the Indian Football Association .
