After almost three years in west London , Millar moved to Merseyside and joined Liverpool FC academy in the summer of 2016 , where he initially struggled with injury problems.

On August 15, 2016, the 16-year-old started the Professional U18 Development League , colloquially known as the U18 Premier League , and scored his first goal in the third minute after Herbie Kane presented his first goal. After another submission by Kane in minute 54 and an assist from Yan Dhanda in the 56th minute, he scored the goals to 2-0 and 3-0, before he was replaced by Glen McAuley in the 64th minute and the game against Blackburn Rovers U-18 ended in a 4-0 Liverpool win. After he was used by coach Neil Critchley in the two subsequent league games over the full game, Millar injured himself seriously in the fourth championship round against the offspring of Stoke City when he pulled a 15 centimeter tear in his quadriceps . As a result, Millar , who had been used as a center forward and hanging tip up to this point, was injured for three months and only returned to the Reds' regular squad in mid-January 2017 . Just a month after his first game for Liverpool FC, the Canadian signed his first professional contract on the day of his 17th birthday.

After that, with the exception of one game when he was playing an international match for his home country, he was used in all games up to the end of the first championship phase, with a total of ten out of 22 possible appearances in this phase ending at the beginning of March on six hits and an assist came. He continued to be used in various offensive positions; mostly as a left winger and a center forward. As third place in the North Division , Liverpool FC qualified after the first round for Group 1 of the second championship phase. Millar played in all of his team's seven games and, despite a relatively good start, ended up eighth and last in Group 1. The Canadian, who was mostly left winger but also center forward, stayed in these matches himself goalless, but was able to provide an assist in the first game when he had to leave the field after a red card in the 30th minute . According to his own statements, Millar scored around 45 to 50 goals in around 32 games in the 2016/17 season, including the friendship and test match.

First appearances in the Reds U-23 team

Under Critchley, the 18-year-old Canadian made nine championship appearances in the Professional U23 Development League , the colloquial U23 Premier League , in which, however, he remained goalless. The assist in his debut game should also remain the only one in the U-23 team this season.

After that, almost two and a half years passed before Millar took part in a nine-day training camp for the Canadian U-20 men in Costa Rica under coach Rob Gale . After that, it took Gale another six months to get him into Canada's U-20 squad for another time. He took part in the CONCACAF U-20 championship of 2017 with a squad of 20 players . At the finals in Costa Rica, for which the Canadians had automatically qualified, the offensive player was used in all three group games of the Canadians. With just one win from these three games, Canada finished third in Group A behind Honduras (second) and Mexico (first) and retired early from the current tournament.

During his successful time at the Academy of Liverpool FC, Millar was appointed to the squad of the Canadian senior team for the first time in March 2018 by the new Canadian national coach John Herdman . During this training camp, the 18-year-old made his A international debut when he was on the pitch in a 1-0 win over New Zealand and played through the full 90 minutes. In May 2018 he took the 21-team U-Canadian at the Tournament of Toulon in part.
