Liam William Peter Miller (born February 13, 1981 in Cork - † February 9, 2018 ) was an Irish football player .

Career

From 1998 to 2004 Miller played at Celtic Glasgow in Scotland , where he was also used in the Champions League , before moving to Manchester United in July 2004 on a free transfer. His contract there ran until June 30, 2008. However, the Irishman could not prevail in Sir Alex Ferguson's team . He then moved after six months at the second division Leeds United in the summer of 2006 to the league rivals AFC Sunderland . In the second half of the 2008/09 season , however, Miller was loaned to the English second division side Queens Park Rangers . After thirteen league games for QPR, he returned to Sunderland.

In September 2009 Miller signed a two-year contract with Scottish first division club Hibernian FC .

After two years in Scotland, he moved to Australia to Perth Glory in June 2011 . Again after two years he turned his back on Glory and moved to Brisbane Roar within the A-League .

After his contract in Brisbane was terminated on October 30, he signed a short-term contract with Melbourne City FC on November 11, 2014 .

National team

For the Irish national team he ran 21 times and scored one goal (in the 3-0 win against Sweden on March 1, 2006).

Private

Miller died of complications from pancreatic cancer on February 9, 2018, four days before his 37th birthday .
