Alan Hutton (born November 30, 1984 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a Scottish football player . The defender was active at the English club Aston Villa until the end of the 2018/19 season and completed 50 full international matches for the Scottish national team .
Career
Alan Hutton was born in Glasgow in 1984 and grew up in the small town of Penilee . He started playing football at a young age.
Glasgow Rangers
Hutton began his professional career with the Scottish first division side Glasgow Rangers and made his debut for the club in the 2002/03 season in a Scottish Premier League match against Partick Thistle , which the Rangers won 2-1. In the 2003/04 season he completed eleven games in the Premier League and scored his first goal against Dunfermline Athletic at Ibrox Stadium . The next season he was Scottish Champion with the Rangers and won the Scottish League Cup . He played ten league games and made his UEFA Cup debut . In February 2005, he broke a leg in the first half of a league game against FC Kilmarnock and had to take a break for the rest of the season.
In the 2005/06 season Hutton was operational again and was called up again by then coach Paul Le Guen , the successor to Alex McLeish . He played in 15 league games and made his UEFA Champions League debut against FC Petržalka 1898 . He was also used in the Champions League games among the last 16 teams against Villarreal . The following season, Hutton was called up for 29 SPL and eight UEFA Cup games, in which he scored a goal in the match against Partizan Belgrade . In the summer of 2007, he signed a new five-year deal with the Rangers.
In the 2007/08 season he was used in 24 Rangers league games 20 times and prepared two goals. The Rangers qualified for the group stage. Hutton played in all six group stage games . In the win against VfB Stuttgart he assisted Charlie Adam and against Olympique Lyon Daniel Cousin . However, the Rangers were only third in the group and eliminated.
In 2007, Alan Hutton came eighth in the World Soccer Magazine's Young Player of the Year ranking .
Tottenham Hotspur
On January 30, 2008 Hutton moved after two cancellations on his part for the sum of an estimated nine million pounds to the English first division club Tottenham Hotspur . He made his debut in a Premier League game against Manchester United on February 2, 2008. On February 24, 2008 Hutton won the Premier League Cup with Tottenham against Chelsea .
Sunderland AFC
On February 1, 2010, he was loaned to Sunderland AFC until the end of the season . He made his debut against Wigan Athletic , the game ended 1-1. Sunderland and Hutton tried to convert the loan into a transfer. However, due to the signing of Marcos Angeleri , Sunderland could not afford another right-back.
Aston Villa
During the 2011 summer break, Hutton moved to Aston Villa . He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2015 and was shirt number 2. During the 2011/12 Premier League , he played 31 league games. On November 22, 2012, the second division Nottingham Forest signed him on loan until January 2, 2013. Until 2014, two more loan periods followed at RCD Mallorca and the Bolton Wanderers , before he was back at Aston Villa to the permanent staff. His engagement there lasted until the end of the 2018/19 season.
National team
In the Scottish national team Alan Hutton was called up for the first time on May 11, 2007 for a friendly against Austria and a EURO 2008 qualifier against the Faroe Islands . He played his first match in a competition in September of the same year against Lithuania . In October he won the Sky Sports Man of the match award in the game against Ukraine .
