Marcos Alberto Angeleri (born April 7, 1983 in La Plata ) is an Argentine football player .

Career

Estudiantes de La Plata

Angeleri played in the first team of Estudiantes de La Plata in 2002 . After good performance at the club, Angeleri was appointed to the Argentina national team six years after his breakthrough from Diego Maradona , in which he was unable to assert himself.

After three international matches, in two of which he was only substituted, Angeleri was no longer nominated for the national team and could now concentrate fully on his club again. There he was henceforth mostly used as a right defender , under coach Diego Simeone but also as a libero .

After continuing to perform well at the club, Angeleri was voted tenth in the 2008 South American Footballer of the Year election.

In the further course of his career Angeleri played at the Copa Sudamericana 2008 and the Copa Libertadores 2009 , in which he was injured and was out for a long time. After his recovery, he played in other league games and the 2010 Copa Libertadores before moving to Sunderland AFC in the same year .

Sunderland AFC

On July 24, 2010, Angeleri signed a three-year contract with Sunderland AFC for an estimated fee of £ 1.5 million . He was part of the 25-man squad for the 2010-11 season and made his debut on December 26, 2010 in the 2-0 loss to Manchester United when he came on for Boudewijn Zenden .

Angeleri played his first FA Cup game on January 8, 2011 against Notts County .

Return to South America

After two unsuccessful years, Angeleri moved to Estudiantes de La Plata. After a year, he moved to Málaga FC for the 2013/14 season and returned to South America in 2016. After stints at CA San Lorenzo and Club Nacional , he signed with Argentinos Juniors in 2019 at the age of 36 .
