Friedburg is a historic market in Upper Austria , which was first granted market rights in 1439 . Today it is the capital and a cadastral community of the Lengau community in the Braunau am Inn district .

geography

The market is located on the southwestern foothills of the Kobernaußerwald in the southern Innviertel at an altitude of 530  m above sea level. A. In the 2001 census had village Friedburg 558 inhabitants. The cadastral community of Friedburg is 6.88 km², and it also includes the villages of Baierberg, Gassl, Kühbichl, St. Ulrich and some houses in Ameisberg.

history

Friedburg is believed to have been owned by the bishops of Bamberg in the 12th century and was sold to Konrad and Harding Kuchler in 1377. Konrad's widow sold the castle and the village to Duke Heinrich of Bavaria in 1439 , who elevated Friedburg to a ducal foster court. In 1504 the place was sacked and after the first market survey had been forgotten over the centuries, the market survey took place for the second time in 1930. Only one year later Friedburg was incorporated into Lengau.

Parish Church of St. Sebastian
  • Friedburg Castle is only preserved today as a castle stable . It was close to the church and is one of the most important castle complexes in the southern Innviertel under monument protection.
  • The parish church of St. Sebastian was mentioned in a document around 1180. A new building was built at the end of the 1860s. The charming rococo high altar was built around 1770; the pulpit in baroque forms in 1869.
  • The baroque rectory was built from 1676 to 1679 by the master builder Josef Vilzkotter, and an extension was added in 1737.
