Leon Koudelak

Leon Koudelak (born July 17, 1961 in Krnov ) is a classical guitarist .

Life

When he was six years old, his parents immigrated to Algeria from Czechoslovakia . His father was a musician and a doctor. His father made him aware of American jazz . His father also introduced him to classical music, in particular to the Czech composers Antonín Dvořák and Bohuslav Martinů . His parents later moved to Switzerland , where Leon Koudelak first heard Andrés Segovia at the age of 12 . At the age of 17 he went to Vienna and studied with the guitarist and teacher Karl Scheit at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , later at the Zurich University of the Arts at the side of Konrad Ragossnig and was a student of Julian Bream in Liechtenstein. He received the Bachelor Degree, the Master of Arts Education and the Masters of Arts Degree (Mag. Art.) With unanimous distinction in Vienna and Zurich. He inspired, among others, the composer Michael Buchrainer to write for the guitar.

After more than 30 years of intensive concert activity, he temporarily withdrew from the international music scene and settled in Thailand in 2005 to become more involved in Asia . He teaches in Bangkok at Mahidol University and Silpakorn University . He also gives concerts regularly in Asia, organizes music festivals in Thailand and is the artistic director of the Thailand Guitar Society . In 1993 he founded the Liechtenstein Guitar Days "Ligita", in 2001 the Asia International Guitar Festival in Bangkok and in 2009 the Pattaya Classical Guitar Festival . In the international music scene he is described as having the reputation of “La mano santa de la guitarra” (“The holy hand of the guitar”).

In 2011, Leon Koudelak announced a possible return to the international stage on his Facebook page. In April / May 2013 he undertook a concert tour through Europe, which he continued in Asia with concerts in Bangkok , Jakarta , Kathmandu , Pattaya , Tokyo and Singapore .

Awards

Leon Koudelak is the winner of the guitar competition “Fundation Jacinto e Inocencio Guerrero” in Madrid and received the Austrian State Prize from the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research for his artistic achievements.
