Konrad Ragossnig

Konrad Ragossnig (born May 6, 1932 in Klagenfurt ; † January 3, 2018 in Antwerp ) was an Austrian guitarist and lutenist .

Life

Ragossnig studied guitar with Karl Scheit at the Vienna Music Academy from 1954 to 1957 and was a professor there from 1960 to 1964. From 1964 to 1983 he taught at the Music Academy of the City of Basel , then, from April 1, 1983 to 2002, again in Vienna as the successor to Karl Scheit. From 1989 to 1997, he was also appointed as a visiting professor at the Zurich University of the Arts . His most famous students include Leon Koudelak and Alexander Swete .

Ragossnig has published around 70 editions of compositions from the 16th to the 20th centuries for lute and, as transcripts himself edited and changed, for guitar and also made around 60 sound recordings. The six-part anthology Musik für Lute (1973/74) deserves special mention, which in 1976 was declared "Record of the Century" by Fono Forum magazine . He has given concerts with world premieres of works by well-known composers such as Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco , Hans Haug , Gottfried von Eine and Armin Schibler . A focus of his arrangements, concerts and recordings is guitar chamber music . He was the editor of the Music for Guitar series published by Edition Schott , which contains works for solo guitar and guitar and other instruments.

Ragossnig lived with his wife Godelieve Monden in Antwerp during the last two years of his life , where he died at the age of 85.
