Məhəddin Allahverdiyev
Məhəddin Allahverdiyev ( Russian Махяддин Исмаил оглы Аллахвердиев , Machjaddin Ismail ogly Allachwerdijew; born May 8, 1962 in Sumqayıt , Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ) is a wrestler of former Soviet descent. He was the Greco-Roman style world champion in paper weight in 1985, 1986 and 1987 .
Career
Məhəddin Allahverdiyev began wrestling as a teenager in 1976. As a member of the Soviet security organs, he became a member of the Dinamo Baku sports club . Throughout his career he has always wrestled with paper weight, the lightest weight class, which at the time had its weight limit of 48 kg. For this weight class, it was relatively large at 1.62 meters.
In 1981 and 1982 he was quite successful as a junior (Espoirs = up to the age of 20). At the Junior World Championships in Vancouver in 1981 he finished second behind the American Mark Fuller and left with Bratan Zenow , Bulgaria , Bernd Scherer , FRG , Vincenzo Maenza , Italy a . Lars Rønningen , Norway Wrestler behind him, with whom he had to deal with the seniors over the next few years. At the European Junior Championships in Leipzig in 1982 , he finished third behind Markus Scherer , BRD and Bratan Zenow.
Məhəddin Allahverdiyev had tough competition in his weight class in the Soviet Union. The names Timor Taimuras Kasaraschwili , Vasili Anikin , Ivan Samtajew and Sergei Suvorov should be mentioned here . It is all the more remarkable that in the years up to 1988 he made frequent appearances for the Soviet Union at the international championships. This frequency is of course due to his successes, which he achieved during this time. It started with winning the title at the 1984 European Championships in Jönköping . It won the paper weight over Andreas Klektiven from the GDR , Salih Bora , Turkey , Pekka Tanner, Finland , Vincenzo Maenza and others. Orze Orzew from Bulgaria . He did not get Olympic honors in 1984 because the Soviet Union boycotted the Olympic Games in Los Angeles that year .
In the years 1985 to 1987 Məhəddin Allahverdiyev was regularly used at the world championships, while at the European championships one of the above-mentioned Soviet wrestlers went to the start. At the 1985 World Championships in Kolbotn , a suburb of Oslo , he won his first world title. In the final, he defeated the 1983 world champion Bratan Zenow from Bulgaria. He won his second world title at the 1986 World Cup in Budapest , where he again defeated Bratan Zenow in the final. In 1987 Magyatdin Allachwerdijew finally won the third world title in a row in Clermont-Ferrand . Here he defeated in the final Vincenzo Maenza , who was one of his competitors at the Junior World Championship in 1981.
Because of these successes, Məhəddin Allahverdiyev started naturally as the favorite in the paper weight category at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . To the surprise of the entire wrestling world, he lost in the final of his pool against Andrzej Głąb from Poland quite clearly with 5:10 techn. Points and could therefore only fight for the bronze medal . In this fight he met Bratan Zenow, to whom he lost this time and therefore had to be satisfied with the medalless 4th place. Olympic champion was Vincenzo Maenza.
After the Olympic Games in 1988 Məhəddin Allahverdiyev was no longer at any international championship. Nothing is known about his further life.
