geography
The village is located in the Bavarian planning region Allgäu , two kilometers northwest of Aitrang.
history
Görwangs was part of the imperial bailiwick of the St. Mang (Füssen) monastery , which had jurisdiction since 1227 . Aitring made it with binning , Görwangs, coins Ried and Umwangs the "bottom bailiwick". The Reichsvogtei was pledged several times and was the last to be acquired in 1524 by the Kempten prince monastery . The Church of St. Alban was built above Görwang as early as 1510 . From 1697 to 1699 a larger new building was built for the pilgrimage church, which was important at the time . The high altar (around 1706/07) is attributed to the famous master builder and plasterer Dominikus Zimmermann . The place fell to the princes Oettingen-Wallerstein in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 , with the Rheinbundakt 1806 it came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . Görwangs has belonged to this municipality since the establishment of the municipality of Aitrang with the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818.
