Kreen is a district of the Upper Swabian community of Biessenhofen in the Ostallgäu district in Bavaria . The hamlet is located south of Altdorf on the old road between Kaufbeuren and Füssen on the eastern slope of the ridge that separates the Wertach Valley from the Gennach Valley.

history

The origins of the hamlet are probably in a Celtic settlement, the Geltnachstein there is likely to be an old place of worship and court. The place name appears for the first time in the seventh century with the geographer of Ravenna as Crino. The first documentary mention is 1099 as Creino, then 1441 as Crän with Hochstiftifschen half courtyards.

In 1650 two farms belonged to Marktoberdorf , two more farms were inherited from the prince monastery of Kempten , two farms were vacant.

Attractions

The church of St. Stephan , which was first mentioned in 1443, is in Kreen .
