Folkshilfe ( original spelling folkshilfe ) is an Austrian band that describes its genre as "Quetschn-Synthi-Pop". "Quetschn" is an Austrian expression for the Styrian harmonica . In the case of the Folkshilfe, a synthesizer is built into the bass section of the harmonica , resulting in a full sound.

history

The band was formed in the summer of 2011 to perform as a street musician . The first successes, with concerts on stages instead of on the street, followed in 2013.

At the end of 2014, they were invited to participate in the preselection of the Austrian contribution to the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest organized by ORF . In the TV show Eurovision Song Contest - Who sings for Austria? with 16 candidates at the beginning, they reached the final round of the last six, where they finally took fourth place. On March 7, 2015 the EP Seit a poa Tog was released.

From 2015 to 2019 the band was under contract with the German music label BlankoMusik. For the label founder Hage Hein, the Folkshilfe was his new "'combat troop' to infiltrate the Bavarian Musikstadl." In cooperation with BlankoMusik, the musicians brought the album with F in 2015 and the BAHÖ album in 2017 . The first single from BAHÖ Mir laungts stayed at the top of the listener charts of the largest Austrian music station Hitradio Ö3 for many weeks . The band has been releasing under the Vienna label Töchtersöhne since 2019.

In addition to their appearances at various festivals and concerts, the band remains true to its history as a street musician. In 2015 she leads her “street music tour” to many German cities such as Berlin , Hamburg , Cologne , Mainz and Frankfurt am Main as well as to the Netherlands ( Amsterdam , Rotterdam ) and Belgium ( Brussels , Antwerp ). The so-called “tourlaub” is already a tradition. Here a “ tour ” is combined with a “vacation” with friends and takes the band mostly to the south of Europe and the Croatian and Italian Adriatic coasts. Guitarist Kaineder made his last appearance at the Spielberg Festival 2016 and was replaced by Paul Slaviczek. With a new line-up, the band has been touring, apart from appearances in concert halls, since 2016 in the so-called “Tour of the Regions” through small taverns and clubs in Austria and Germany, away from the big cities. This was followed by appearances at Woodstock der Blasmusik 2018 and as a co- headliner of the Danube Island Festival 2019. In 2020, all planned concerts of the SING tour had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . However, the band performed live at the 1st ORF Radio Festival in July 2020.
