youth

Stefan Dettl grew up as the son of Marille and Josef Dettl in Grassau im Chiemgau. At the age of eleven he received trumpet lessons , before that he had also learned the guitar . He started with his first compositions and won awards in competitions.

At the age of 14 he began playing in youth symphony orchestras and bands . First tours took him to Denmark and Italy. At the age of 16 Dettl was appointed to the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra and made concert tours throughout Europe. There he met Andreas Martin Hofmeir , with whom he founded LaBrassBanda in 2007. Dettl did his military service in the Air Force Music Corps 1 in Neubiberg near Munich .

Education

In 2000 he began studying music at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Wolfgang Guggenberger and later at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz with Josef Eidenberger . His concert diploma in classical music was followed by a two-year jazz trumpet study with Claus Reichstaller , during which he played in an ensemble with Manuel da Coll and Manuel Winbeck, later members of LaBrassBanda.

In the following years he attended master classes with Reinhold Friedrich , Hans Gansch , Bobby Shew and Matthias Höfs and completed a degree in baroque music .

Solo and orchestral musicians

After his training Dettl went to Nuremberg for an orchestral internship and played in various classical ensembles. Solo concerts took him as far as New York, and he began composing for larger ensembles.

Projects

After the end of his full-time ministry as an orchestral musician Dettl oriented more to popular music and plays in different formations.

LaBrassBanda

From a project by Dettl on the trumpet with the DJ collective International Bohemia , the band LaBrassBanda developed in the course of 2007 and quickly gained international fame in 2008.

A tour to Vienna on the occasion of the European Football Championship 2008 paved the way for further engagements, including in various cities in Russia , London and at the Chiemsee Reggae Summer , Hurricane , Southside and Roskilde festivals . From 2010 to 2012 LaBrassBanda played more than 500 concerts.

On December 4th, 2011, LaBrassBanda ended their big overseas tour in front of 12,000 fans in the Munich Olympic Hall . LaBrassBanda achieved second place in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the title Nackert . In June 2013 the new album Europa was released with the single Holland .

Stefan Dettl solo

During the break after the big LaBrassBanda tour, the members devoted themselves to further developing their own projects. Stefan Dettl developed pieces in a more rocky style and founded his own band in which he still sings in Bavarian dialect and mainly plays guitar. Next to him, Tobias Weber on drums and Stefan Pfeiffer on bass. Fabian Jungreithmayr on guitar, Mario Schönhofer on bass (for Stefan Pfeiffer), Jörg Hartl on trumpet and Andi Huber on trombone, who are also musicians, joined later.

The band's first album, Rockstar , was recorded in their own overseas studio; all of the songs written by Dettl are based on Nirvana , the Foo Fighters , The Sweet , The Police but also Quincy Jones and stylistically include not only the “party music” known from LaBrassBanda but also quieter ballads and epic rock.

The title single was released on January 14, 2011, the album on February 4, 2011.

The trio had their first appearance as an opener at Chiemsee Rocks in August 2010, followed by the Rockstar Tour 2011 with over 40 concerts all over Germany.

In 2016 his third album Soultrain followed, which differs significantly from the two previous albums . Rock influences can hardly be heard anymore, the direction swings more towards soul , funk and jazz . In addition, English-language texts have been added to Bavarian.

theatre

In July 2010, a production of the Singspiel Im Weißen Rößl premiered in the Munich Lustspielhaus , for which Stefan Dettl and Hans Kröll rearranged the music.
