Matthias Höfs

Matthias Höfs (* 1965 in Lübeck ) is a German trumpeter and university lecturer in Hamburg .

Life

His first trumpet teacher was the Lübeck solo trumpeter Herbert Schmidt-Kärner. From 1982 he studied the trumpet with Peter Kallensee at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg , where he passed his concert exam with distinction. He then moved to the Karajan Academy in Berlin to pursue further studies with Konradin Groth .

As a student he was a member of various well-known youth orchestras, including the Young German Philharmonic and the European Union Youth Orchestra .

From 1984 until his appointment as professor at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg in 2000, Höfs was principal trumpeter of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra .

Since 1985 he has been a member of the German Brass ensemble . a. with the Linos Ensemble , the German Wind Soloists, the Ensemble Villa Musica and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen .

Awards

In 1983 the city of Lübeck awarded him the Hanse Culture Prize, in 1988 he received the Eduard Söring Prize from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and in 1989 a scholarship from the German Music Council and the Mozart Society. He was awarded first prizes at the 1987 music academy competition and at the 1990 International Music Competition in Markneukirchen .
