A fan decoupler is a technical component. It is used in device construction, for example as a component in the mechanical construction of computer housings .

If it is necessary to install a device for supplying fresh air ( fan ) in the outer wall of a housing, this can lead to malfunctions. One cause can be vibrations that are transmitted to the housing by the fan . To prevent this, an elastic decoupling frame, the fan decoupler, is installed between the fan and the housing.

Another option is to mount the fan with an elastic screw connection.

If they are retrofitted in PC power supplies, their guarantee and product liability are void. In addition, the safety guideline EN-60950 can be violated if the fan decouplers are the cause and allow access to live parts inside the power supply unit without tools or with little effort.
