Andreas Martin "Hans" Hofmeir (* 1978 in Munich ) is a Bavarian musician (was with LaBrassBanda , among others ). He is also a cabaret artist and professor for tuba at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg .

Life and education

Andreas Martin Hofmeir grew up in Geisenfeld in der Holledau and learned piano , drums and tenor horn as a child . He started playing tuba when he was twelve . In 1998 he began studying at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin . He came to Hanover University of Music in 2001 through the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm . He was a scholarship holder of the orchestral academies of the Berlin and Munich Philharmonics and also played with the Vienna Philharmonic , the Gewandhausorchester and other well-known orchestras. From 2004 to 2008 he was solo tuba player in the Bruckner Orchestra Linz under Dennis Russell Davies .

As a soloist he won the renowned international tuba competition “Citta di Porcia” in Pordenone, Italy in 2004 . A year later he celebrated his greatest success to date with the prize of the German Music Competition 2005 in Berlin, becoming the first tuba player in the history of the competition. In 2013 he received an Echo Klassik as "Instrumentalist of the Year" and played at the concert gala for the award ceremony in the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. Hofmeir performed there as well as at other concerts without shoes.

In September 2006 Hofmeir was appointed as the successor to Professor Hoppert at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and in 2010 he was appointed full professor there. He also gives master classes and is a sought-after juror in competitions in his field.

With the harpist Andreas Mildner , he founded the world's first tuba-harp duo. They played at well-known festivals such as the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival , the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Middle Europe Festival and the International Harp Festival in Rio de Janeiro . He plays with the violinist Benjamin Schmid in Schmid / Hofmeir HochTief GmbH, the world's only duo with tuba and violin. He performs in a duo for tuba and organ with the organist Barbara Schmelz. Andreas Hofmeir gives concerts with his own jazz band and with his tuba ensemble European Tuba Power. As a chamber musician , Hofmeir also played with the Scharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic, the brass quintets of the Munich Philharmonic and the Bamberg Symphony, and the Heavy Tuba Ensemble .

In March 2012 Hofmeir's debut CD "Uraaufnahm" appeared in the Primavera series of the German Music Council (Genuin), on which only first recordings, including works written for him, can be heard. 2013 followed with "Why not?" (Genuin) the first CD of the duo tuba & harfe, in 2014 then "on the way" (Sony), together with the Munich Philharmonic and Andrew Manze. In 2018 Schmid / Hofmeir HochTief GmbH released the first CD "Stradihumpa" (ACT).

In May 2019 he became a member of the Munich tower scribe .

LaBrassBanda

Hofmeir became well known as a tuba player in the Bavarian brass band LaBrassBanda, which was founded in 2007 . A tour to Vienna on the occasion of the European Football Championship 2008 paved the way for further engagements, including in various cities in Russia , London and at the Chiemsee Reggae Summer , Hurricane , Southside and Roskilde festivals . From 2010 to 2012 LaBrassBanda played more than 500 concerts. In July 2011 the band played in front of 7000 spectators in the Benediktbeuern monastery . On December 4th, 2011, LaBrassBanda ended their big overseas tour in front of 12,000 fans in the Munich Olympic Hall . LaBrassBanda achieved second place in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the title Nackert . They won the one-week radio listener voting, took second place in the television audience voting and only lost due to a poor rating by the jury. After Hofmeir was mostly represented on tuba by Stefan Huber at the 2014 concerts, in December 2014 he answered the question “Was that that for you with LaBrassBanda?”: “Yes, you can say that”. The curiosity outweighs where his “classical and cabaret projects might go”.

cabaret artist

In addition to his work as a musician, Hofmeir also appears on stage as a cabaret artist . He played and wrote the lyrics for four programs of the Ingolstadt music cabaret "Star Fours" and for five programs of the theater cabaret ensemble "Die Qualkommission", which is also based in Ingolstadt, with which he was awarded the small executioner's ax in Passau in 2008 . Together with Roman Deininger, he wrote and staged the cabaret evening “The Ball is Sore” at the Landestheater Linz in April 2008 . His latest music cabaret program, "No effort!", Combines stories from his autobiography "No effort. Terribly true stories from my life with the tuba" (btb) with Brazilian music for tuba and accompanying instrument. The program was published as a live audio book by Hörverlag. In the meantime there is also the follow-up program "No effort! Part 2 - The last few years".
