Günter Stössel

Günter Stössel (born August 2, 1944 in Nuremberg ) is a writer , dialect poet , cabaret artist and songwriter . He lives in Nuremberg.

education and profession

Günter Stössel attended the Pestalozzi School and the Hardenberg Gymnasium in Fürth . In 1966/67 he completed an industrial internship and then studied mechanical engineering at the Georg-Simon-Ohm University of Nuremberg until 1970, with a degree in engineering . From 1970 to 1988 Stössel worked as a project engineer at Kraftwerk Union in Erlangen and since 1978 as a technical editor .

Songwriter and writer

As a part-time job, Stössel appeared publicly as a singer-songwriter with blues , folk and ragtime , underlaid with Franconian dialect texts . For this he wrote his own songs and texts in the style of dialect cabaret. He took part in the Nuremberg Bardentreffen eight times . He has been a freelance musician and writer since 1989 . He became known through numerous publications in the form of brochures and books as long-playing records, CDs and music cassettes, above all through the books Närmberch English Spoken and Nürnberg bei Fürth , which were published several times. Most recently he translated texts by the Nuremberg dialect poet Konrad Grübel and, together with Maximilian Kerner , by Wilhelm Busch into today's Nuremberg city jargon. He has also in the context of Asterix - dialect number two volumes in the Franconian dialect transmitted.

Stössel was and is a freelance employee of Bayerischer Rundfunk with his own regular column. Already in the nineties he was u. a. also in one of the most popular entertainment series of the Bavarian radio: “Das Bairisch Herz. Cheerful and contemplative in words and songs ”represented with contributions in the Franconian editions.

Language maintenance support

Günter Stössel supports the Franconian language alliance, which criticizes the fact that the German language is increasingly being replaced by English, especially in business, media and science, even in Germany. Quote from Stössel:

“Foreign words are like potholes on the road: you should know them in order to be able to avoid them elegantly. There is (almost) always a suitable German word. "

He also works on the language committee of the Pegnese Order of Flowers . A language committee meeting “On language maintenance ” dealt with the widespread attitude that “everything is in flux” in language history anyway. Günter Stössel commented on this that it could also be expressed in such a way that “everything is going down the drain”.
