For the XXXIII. For the 2024 Summer Olympics , the National Olympic Committees were invited to submit their candidacies to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by September 15, 2015 . The first application documents then had to be submitted by January 8, 2016. In April / May 2016, the IOC Executive Committee selected the cities that were given candidate city status. The deadline for submitting full application documents ended in January 2017, and on August 1, 2017, the IOC announced that the Summer Olympics will be held in Paris in 2024 as it was the only remaining applicant.

Applications

Paris

In June 2015, the Organizing Committee announced Paris's bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Paris hosted the Summer Olympics in 1900 and 1924 .

Withdrawn applications

Hamburg

On March 16, 2015, the Presidium of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) recommended supporting Hamburg's application for the 2024 Olympics. The 11th Extraordinary General Assembly of the DOSB on March 21, 2015 in Frankfurt am Main then unanimously passed the resolution to apply with Hamburg to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 and possibly also in 2028. Berlin's application was therefore no longer pursued. On November 29, 2015 , the Hamburg population rejected the application in a referendum , with 51.6% against 48.4% of the votes.

Rome

In December 2014, Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi declared Rome to be Italy's candidate for the 2024 Summer Olympics for the Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano (CONI). On September 21, 2016, the newly elected Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi announced that she would no longer support the application , and on September 29, the city council voted 30:12 in a special session against the Olympic bid. The main reason given was the high cost.

Budapest

In July 2015, Budapest's Mayor István Tarlós and Hungary's NOK President Zsolt Borkai announced the application of Budapest. On February 22, 2017, it was announced that the Hungarian capital is withdrawing from the race to host the 2024 Games. Mayor Tarlós confirmed this. Approval for the plans fell and a citizens' movement had collected over 266,000 signatures, twice as many as needed, for a local referendum to apply.

los Angeles

On January 8, 2015, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) named Boston as its candidate for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The other candidates were Los Angeles , San Francisco and Washington, DC In July 2015, the USOC and the City of Boston jointly announced that Boston won't compete for the Olympics. The USOC then selected Los Angeles, the host of the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984 , as the new national candidate in September 2015 . The city withdrew its application on July 31, 2017 in favor of hosting the Games in 2028.
