International year of soils

The year 2015 was used by the United Nations for the International Year of floors explained. It was part of the UN Decade to Combat Desertification . The decision was made by the 68th General Assembly of the United Nations on December 12, 2013, after the decision had been made to declare December 5 as World Soil Day .

With the Year of Soils, the UN wanted to draw attention to the fundamental importance of soils as a non-renewable resource for natural ecosystems, for agriculture and food, and for many branches of the economy. In particular, she wanted to point out the threats to soils, such as surface sealing , desertification or salinisation and the associated problems, but also to point out possible solutions and stimulate discussion about them.

For the year of soils, the national competition BodenWertSchätze with the five topics of land management , land management, land use, land recycling , regional gardening and vegetable cultivation , drafting of lease agreements and education and public relations work was organized by the Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) and the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU) aligned. There were three winners in each category. In the field of education and public relations , the project 2000m² of the Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft achieved first place. The Kaiserstuhl community of Eichstetten (Germany) received a special award in the year of the 60th anniversary of local organic farming and the corresponding commitment of local organic farms and wineries.
