Ottomar Holdefleiss

Ottomar Holdefleiss , also written Ottomar Holdefleiss , (born December 16, 1855 in Salzmünde , † February 10, 1912 in Berlin ) was a German blacksmith and entrepreneur .

Life

Ottomar Holdefleiß was born in Salzmünde near Halle (Saale) . Here he trained as a metalworker, which at the time included both locksmith and blacksmith work. He came to Berlin in 1888 and, together with the locksmith Schulz, founded the company Schulz & Holdefleiß , Fennstrasse  13 in Wedding . (He lived in the house at Chausseestrasse 27.) As early as 1890, the company was located on the Lützowufer  31 property. In connection with the rapidly growing metropolis, the company received more and more orders, so that the number of employees temporarily rose to 300.

In 1896, the Schulz & Holdefleiß company won the gold medal at the Berlin industrial exhibition with the life-size fountain figure of a kneeling knight with the facial features of Bismarck . At the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 , the exhibition area of the German textile industry was decorated with a work by the company.

From 1903–1904, Holdefleiß had the architect Julius Wendler build a representative villa on a 5000 m² plot of land on Adelheidallee not far from the Tegel estate , the upper floor of which is made of iron truss in an unusual way . An elaborately designed wrought iron garden fence has also been preserved from this time.

At the inauguration of the village church Alt-Tegel , for which Holdefleiß had donated the entrance portal, he contracted pneumonia on January 19, 1912 , from which he did not recover. He died on February 10th.
