- January 7th - An attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris leaves twelve dead and several injured. The magazine, which had already been the target of attacks and hacker attacks in the past, not only reprinted the Mohammed cartoons in the Danish magazine Jyllands-Posten in 2006 , but also repeatedly spoke out against Islamism as a global totalitarian movement and the threat it poses noted for freedom of expression .

- January 13th - Norddeutscher Rundfunk switches off medium wave transmitters in Flensburg , Hamburg-Moorfleet , Hanover-Hemmingen and Lingen . The money saved will be used to expand DAB + . Since then, NDR Info Spezial can only be received via DAB + , DVB-S and the Internet. In Germany, only BR , SR and WDR continue to broadcast via medium wave . Deutschlandfunk also wants to end its medium-wave broadcasting by the end of 2015 .
- January 16 - The Austrian youth culture and music channel FM4 is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the start of broadcasting with the best 100 songs from two decades.
- April 25 - In order to bring drastic attention to the hypocrisy they perceive in the debate about animal rights , the two Danish radio presenters Asger Juhl and Kristoffer Erikson pretend to kill a rabbit during a live broadcast for Radio24syv, causing violent reactions to death threats trigger.

- July 18 - The early as 2013 disused transmission tower of the RIAS in Berlin-Britz was blown up.
- September 1st - The Dutch radio broadcaster Radio Maria closes its Mittelwelen operations.
- September 30th - The BR switches off its four medium wave transmitters in Ismaning and Dillberg , Würzburg and Hof .
- December 31st - Deutschlandfunk and Saarländischer Rundfunk are the last German public radio to withdraw from medium wave with their antenna Saar program . The Heusweiler (DLF and SR) transmitters , as well as Ehndorf , Cremlingen-Abbenrode , Nordkirchen , Thurnau and Ravensburg (Wilhelmskirch) transmitters are switched off. This means that medium-wave transmission in Germany ends after 92 years .
- December 31st - Radio France also ceases medium-wave broadcasting operations, including the medium-wave transmitter Sélestat .
