- The German Broadcasting Archive in Frankfurt am Main begins collecting documents on television history .
- July 7 - The federal broadcasting institution German wave enters the ARD at
- July 10th - Telstar telecommunications satellite launched , the first civil satellite for intercontinental television broadcasts. Both the American space agency NASA and the telecommunications company AT&T are involved in the project. The first live television broadcast between Europe and the USA takes place on July 23. In the same year, the British instrumental rock group The Tornados succeeded in producing a hit called Telstar, produced by Joe Meek . Meek was inspired by the satellite.
- October 26th - The Spiegel affair begins with the occupation of the Spiegel editorial office in Hamburg . The news magazine, its publisher and owner Rudolf Augstein , and several leading editors are accused of treason .

- John Peel started working as a radio presenter at the WRR radio station in Dallas , Texas, where he was soon - not least because of his British origins - considered a “ Beatles expert ”.

- September 30 - The CBS radio broadcasts the final episodes of Suspense and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar . In the USA, the date is considered to be the end of the “classic” or “golden” age of radio.
- Oct. 28 - Cuban Missile Crisis : Via Radio Moscow announced CPSU boss Nikita Khrushchev the withdrawal of Soviet stationed missiles on Cuba after the US-Soviet crisis hours has been intensified dramatically. With no direct links between the governments of the Soviet Union and the United States at this point in time, radio plays a key role in resolving the missile crisis that has brought the world to the brink of a nuclear exchange.

- September - The ORF begins broadcasting school television programs .
- September 1st - Channel Television , an offshoot of the British ITV, starts broadcasting in the Channel Islands .
- September 26th - The Beverly Hillbillies sitcom starts .
- October 1 - CBS begins airing sitcom The Lucy Show with Lucille Ball .
- October 2 - The first of five seasons of the television series Combat begins on ABC . The series deals with US soldiers fighting on the Western Front during World War II .
