history

Origin and development of the place

Nettesheim, village square (2005)

The origin of Nettesheim goes back to the Franconian times. In 1187 the place was mentioned as "Neoensheim". Until 1794 Nettesheim belonged to the Dingstuhl Rommerskirchen in the Electoral Cologne Office of Hülchrath . After the French invaded in 1794, the area on the left bank of the Rhine became French. In 1798 the French divided the Rhineland into four departments (Rur / Roer, Rhine-Mosel, Saar and Donnersberg). Departments were subdivided into arrondissements / roughly administrative districts, these in turn into cantons / roughly districts and these again into mairies / mayor's offices. The Mairie Nettesheim was established as the lowest administrative unit in this area . This belonged to the canton of Dormagen in the Arrondissement Cologne in the Département de la Roer . After the withdrawal of the French occupation troops as a result of the collapse of the Napoleonic Empire in 1814, the Catholic Rhineland was awarded to Protestant Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. At that time, the Nettesheim mayor's office of the same name was formed with the communities of Nettesheim-Butzheim , Frixheim-Anstel and Gohr. In 1819 Nettesheim received his first full-time teacher. Between 1847 and 1894, 251 registered emigrants from Nettesheim and Butzheim emigrated, mainly to America.

The mayor's office in Nettesheim belonged to the Neuss district until 1929, and from 1927 it was called an office. In 1929 the Nettesheim office came to the Grevenbroich district . Since 1936 there was a joint administration with Rommerskirchen in the new Eckum town hall . The municipality of Nettesheim-Butzheim belonged to the Rommerskirchen-Nettesheim office until it was dissolved. Its last mayor was Peter Emunds ( CDU ) and his deputy Konrad Pesch (CDU). They also held the offices of honorary community director and general representative. The community consisted of the localities Nettesheim and Butzheim. On January 1, 1975, both the Rommerskirchen-Nettesheim office and the Nettesheim-Butzheim community were dissolved and incorporated into the Rommerskirchen community.

Catholic parish

St. Martinus in Nettesheim

The Catholic parish of St. Martinus zu Nettesheim was first mentioned in 1195. Only the Romanesque tower remains from the original church. In 1515 the church was renovated with the exception of the tower. In 1858 the old choir had to give way to a new building. In 1885 the old part of the church was adapted to the new building and the tower was raised. In the former cemetery next to the church, which was converted into a park in 2005, there is a war memorial that commemorates the fallen and missing of the First World War from 1914 to 1918. In the fields around Nettesheim there are wayside crosses, which are called footfalls , as they remind of the Passion of Christ and were connected with a footfall for those praying in the procession . Of the original seven wayside crosses, only five are left today.
